VETri is a free six week program designed specifically for veterans and active duty military. The class allows individuals to work with others who have shared similar experiences. Glassblowing incorporates the use of dangerous materials forcing mindfulness and attention to safety during the process of manipulating the molten glass. Team building and the use of life skills are also key elements of the program. Participants find a sense of community and camaraderie that may have been elusive upon their return home. Each veteran has the option to participate in the program for up to 24 weeks. Class sessions are offered in six week blocks with a one week break in between sessions. The classes are generally available on Sunday afternoons but we are exploring an offering during the week. After completion of twelve (12) weeks of glassblowing instruction, students are eligible to schedule studio time to practice their skills. Classes are structured such that students learn a new technique every other week with ample class time to practice the new skill. By the end of 24 weeks students are able to produce a wide variety of glass objects, from cups to wavy bowls. Students can continue to schedule studio time and are eligible to expand their glass working skills by lampworking and /or kiln forming techniques. If you are ready to take on the challenge of glassblowing and want to expand your connections within the veteran community, fill out the attached application and return to: firstname.lastname@example.org.
